Raif (Ray) Zada

Passed away July 18, 2013 from natural causes in Sonora, CA. Ray was born in Detroit, Michigan November 28, 1948 to Thomas Zada and Suzanne Evangalos Zada. Thomas and Suzanne then moved to Los Angeles California and settled in the San Fernando Valley, first in Van Nuys and then in Woodland Hills. Ray attended Van Nuys High where he excelled in sports, notably football and track. He loved the beach and was an avid surfer, enjoying the surfing lifestyle of the late 1960's and early 1970's. Ray attended California State University at Northridge, graduating with a degree in Physical Education. After graduation, Ray worked for Ayerst Pharmaceutical Laboratories but quit to become an entrepreneur, opening many successful franchises throughout the Hawaiian Islands with Subway Sandwiches and Pretzelmaker. He then moved to Bend, Oregon and then to Sonora, CA. where he passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. Ray loved being outdoors, working on his homes and in the yard, and even earned a "Master Gardner" certification. He was a terrific golfer, (winning first place in the NCGA "One Man Scramble") and adored all animals, especially his many dogs and cats. Where ever he made his home he referred to it as the Zada Zoo. He loved all kinds of music, really bad jokes, and had a silly sense of humor that endeared him to many. He was a truly unique spirit, and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by sons Jason Zada (Elizabeth Warren) Grandson Milo Zada, Granddaughter Lula Zada; Sons Bryan and Brandon Zada; brother Ramy Zada (Taylor Zada); Sisters Tina Zada; Nicole Zada (Ian Williams), Patti Zada-Grant (Brad Grant), partner Patti Bowdler and many cousins in Toronto, Canada and Los Angeles, CA. all of whom he loved dearly.
Memorial Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at Utter McKinley Funeral Home in Mission Hills, CA. Saturday August 3, 2013 at 12:30 pm. A grave site farewell will follow at the San Fernando Mission Catholic Cemetery in Mission Hills, CA.
